All your efforts to produce ethanol or drinking alcohol at home will surely bear fruit once you sit back and admire the alcoholic beverage dripping out after distillation of alcohol. Stronger alcohols and spirits including delicious whiskey, rum, vodka, etc can be derived out of your fermented mash only after distilling them to remove water and other components while only allowing pure and stronger ethanol or alcohol to drip from the pipe attached to the distillation still. This process involves boiling the fermented mash to release alcohol vapors that have a lower boiling point than water. Several countries now allow home distillation provided the alcoholic beverages are only utilized for personal consumption while a few countries have capped the alcohol strength or proof levels of alcoholic beverages that can be produced at home.

If your love for alcohols and spirits goes much more ahead of simply sipping on branded drinks then you can easily engage in distillation of alcohol at home provided you fulfill all legal conditions imposed in your country. You should however, understand that you will be dealing with volatile liquids that will be boiled to release vapors and hence should take all proper precautions while constructing, purchasing, and operating your alcohol still. If possible, you should visit a friend that already creates liquid magic at home with an efficient home distillation kit so as to practically observe the fine art of alcohol distillation at home before you have heady dreams of distilling alcohol in your own home or garage.

For home distillation of alcohol, the pot distillation method is a very cost-effective method since the equipment required is very simple. You can now make your favorite alcohol in small batches that can then be flavored or directly sipped upon depending on your choice. You will also have to age certain alcoholic beverages such as whiskey and rum before you can lay your parched lips on them. The pot distillation still will consist of a pot made out of copper or stainless steel. The top of the pot will need to be attached with an ethanol distillation column that will collect vapors of ethanol boiling in the pot below. These vapors will then be transported to the attached copper or stainless steel pipe while preventing contaminants from proceeding any further with the help of adequate packing.

The pipe will lead the vapors towards the other end that will have a water jacket around it or might simply be lowered into a bucket of water to induce condensation to turn those potent vapors back into liquid form. You will finally be able to observe droplets of your chosen alcohol falling into an attached collection vessel that might be fitted with a carbon or charcoal filter to purify and polish the desired alcoholic beverage. Your distillation process would now be complete but you would need to repeat this process a few more times for stronger alcohols and spirits.

If you dream of distilling alcohol just like the experts then letting out sighs of frustration is not the solution. All you need is to study the alcohol distillation process in detail while also constructing or buying appropriate distillation equipment before you engage in distillation of alcohol so as to watch those heady drops magically appear in your collection vessel after each successful distillation.
